Sharp E01 hob: what it means & what to check

What E01 actually means

The hob's internal cooling fan has stopped working, so the hob has shut the cooking zones down to protect its own electronics.

An induction hob like the KH-6I23BS00-EU runs a fan underneath the glass to keep the power electronics cool while the zones are on. The control board watches that fan, and if it isn't running as expected it stops heating and puts a fault code up in the zone display rather than let the components cook themselves. Sharp's own instruction is unambiguous on this one — it tells you to call service, because it isn't a user-resettable condition.

What E01 looks like on a Sharp hob

What usually causes it

The cooling fan itself has failed or seized
Dust, grease or fluff clogging the fan and its air path
Ventilation openings under or behind the hob blocked by the worktop or units below
A loose or damaged connection between the fan and the control board
Fault on the control board that monitors the fan

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the hob off at the wall for a minute, then back on — if it was a one-off glitch the code will clear
Check nothing has been pushed up against the underside of the hob inside the cupboard or drawer below, and that any vents there aren't covered by packaging, tea towels or stored items
Make sure the hob surface and surrounding trim are clean and the appliance isn't boxed in by anything sitting on top
