What E09 actually means
The hob's control electronics have failed their own calibration check, and Sharp's own instruction for this code is to get an authorised engineer out.
On this induction hob the control board holds calibration values it uses to interpret its sensors and regulate power to the zones. When those values don't check out, the board flags E09 and refuses to run normally rather than guess at power levels. It is one of the few codes in Sharp's list where the manual gives no owner remedy at all — it points straight at service.
What E09 looks like on a Sharp hob
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Sharp hob, E09 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Noisy fan
- Not getting cold evenly
- Cuts out after a few minutes
- No function at all
- Dead — nothing lights up
- Lights flashing and nothing happening
- Programme won't start
- Hob tripping the electrics
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- A fault in the hob's control or power board
- Corrupted or lost calibration data after a power surge or supply interruption
- A sensor reading outside the range the board expects, throwing the calibration check
- A board that was replaced or re-fitted without being calibrated to the hob
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Switch the hob off at the wall or the isolator switch, leave it a minute, then switch back on — a genuine one-off glitch will sometimes clear
- Make sure the glass is dry and there is nothing resting on or spilt over the touch controls, as a held-down key can confuse the panel on start-up
- If the code returns straight away, don't keep resetting it — note whether all zones are affected or one, as that helps the engineer
Which Sharp models show E09
E09 means the same thing on this model. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.

Can I fix Sharp E09 myself?
There are 3 checks you can safely do yourself first.
- Switch the hob off at the wall or the isolator switch, leave it a minute, then switch back on — a genuine one-off glitch will sometimes clear.
- Make sure the glass is dry and there is nothing resting on or spilt over the touch controls, as a held-down key can confuse the panel on start-up.
- If the code returns straight away, don't keep resetting it — note whether all zones are affected or one, as that helps the engineer.
This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried them.
How much does it cost to repair Sharp E09?
£66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it, or £84 in total including VAT if it is put right on the visit and no parts are needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.
Tried the checks and it's still showing E09?
This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. Then it wants someone who can open it up.
What it costs, before you call: the price is the same whatever the fault turns out to be — £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it, or £84 in total including VAT if it is put right on the visit and no parts are needed. Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
