Sharp E06 hob: what it means & what to check

What E06 actually means

The touch control panel and the heating side of the hob have stopped talking to each other, so the hob shuts the zones down.

On this Sharp hob the glass touch panel and the power board that drives the cooking zones communicate constantly. When that link drops out or the signal is corrupted, the hob stops heating and puts E06 on the display rather than run zones it can no longer control. Sharp's own instructions for this code are to call out a service engineer, and that is honest advice — it is not a setting or a user error.

What E06 looks like on a Sharp hob

What usually causes it

The ribbon connection between the touch panel and the power board has worked loose or corroded
A failed control (touch) board behind the glass
A failed power/induction board under the hob
Heat build-up or liquid ingress under the worktop damaging the connection
A power supply disturbance that has left the boards out of step

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the hob off at the wall or at the fuse board, leave it for a minute, then power it back up — an occasional one-off communication drop will clear and not return
Wipe the glass and the touch area completely dry, as standing liquid and a damp panel can upset the controls
Check nothing is resting on the touch controls, such as a pan handle, cloth or utensil
If the code returns as soon as you switch on, stop there — there is nothing further you can safely do
