What F15 actually means

The washing machine has lost confidence in the electronics that drive the motor, so it has shut the cycle down rather than spin the drum.

F15 is a motor control unit error, and the fix it points to is the electronic module — the control board. In practice the machine will usually stop dead mid-cycle, often with water still in the drum, because it can no longer control drum rotation safely. The same code turns up in the factory service test when the pump and drain stage is run, so it can also appear alongside drainage-related faults rather than on its own.

What F15 looks like on a Whirlpool washing machine

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the machine off at the wall socket for a minute, then switch back on and see whether the code returns — a one-off electronic glitch will sometimes clear
If the drum is full of water, run a drain or spin-only programme to see how far it gets; note the point in the cycle where it stops, as that helps the engineer
Check the drain hose is not kinked or trapped behind the machine, and clean the pump filter if your model has one at the front — F15 can appear during the drain stage
