What F22 actually means
The washing machine's control board has flagged a fault it can't recover from, so it halts the programme — usually with the drum refusing to turn.
Whirlpool's own service notes list F22 as a controller failure, pointing at the electronic module (PCB) as the thing to check. In practice it shows itself as a machine that fills and drains but won't drive the drum, or one that dies part-way through a wash and locks the display on the code. - Turn the machine off at the wall socket, leave it a full minute, then switch back on and try a short programme — a latched code will sometimes clear.
- If the drum is heavily loaded on one side, open up and redistribute the washing before restarting.
- Clean the drain pump filter and check the drain hose isn't kinked or trapped behind the machine, so you can rule out a simple drainage stall.
- Check the door shuts and latches cleanly with nothing caught in the seal.
- If the code comes straight back after a power cycle, stop there — nothing else is safe for you to try.
