What E93 actually means
The dryer's control board has lost or mismatched its own settings — the data that tells it which model it is and how to run — so it stops the cycle rather than carry on.
Every Zanussi dryer control board stores a configuration in its memory (the EEPROM) that matches the board to the machine it was fitted to. On E93 the board reads that stored configuration and finds it wrong or unreadable, so it abandons the programme and switches off instead of running blind. Nothing mechanical is being reported here — no blocked filter, no jammed drum — it's purely the electronics failing their own start-up check.
What E93 looks like on a Zanussi tumble dryer
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Zanussi tumble dryer, E93 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- No function at all
- Dead — nothing lights up
- Lights flashing and nothing happening
- Programme won't start
- Machine tripping the electrics
- E93 flashing on the display
- Beeping and showing E93
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- Corrupted configuration data in the board's memory
- A replacement control board fitted without being configured to the model
- A failing electronic control board
- Power supply disturbance while the board was writing to its memory
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the dryer off at the wall socket, leave it a minute, then switch back on — a one-off glitch will sometimes clear on a fresh power-up
- If the code returns immediately every time you power up, stop there; there is nothing else on the outside of the machine that affects this fault
