What is actually happening
A hood where the light works but the fan does not has power, so the fault is in the fan side — the switch, the capacitor or the motor. A hood where neither works has lost its supply, and on many kitchens that is a spur or isolator switch above the units rather than the hood itself.
The Hisense fault codes that point at this
A Hisense cooker hood will usually tell you what it thinks is wrong before anyone opens it up. These are the codes we hold for this make that relate to not working:
- E19 — The hob has detected that one of the cooking zones has got far too hot and has shut the heat off, with a continuous beep, to protect itself.
- E20 — The hood's own control electronics have found a fault inside themselves and shut the unit down.
- E42 — The touch control panel isn't reporting back correctly, so the appliance has shut down its functions rather than run blind.
If yours is showing one of those, that is a much shorter conversation than a general fault — tell us the code when you book and the engineer can often carry the part.
The usual causes on a Hisense cooker hood
- A failed fan motor or a seized bearing, often from years of grease
- A failed motor capacitor, where the motor hums but will not start
- A failed push-button or slider switch
- A tripped isolator or spur switch feeding the hood
- Grease-clogged filters overloading the motor

- Look for an isolator or spur switch above or beside the units
- Take the metal filters out and degrease them; badly clogged filters can stall a tired motor
