What E36 actually means

The machine thinks the drum is empty, so it has cancelled the drying programme instead of running it.

On Beko washer-dryers the control checks whether there is any load in the drum before it commits to a drying cycle. If it can't detect one, it spins for a short while and then ends the programme, showing E36. That is why owners report the machine "finishing in a couple of minutes" rather than drying anything.

What usually causes it

  • A drying programme started with nothing, or very little, in the drum
  • A very small or very light load the machine can't sense
  • Washing bunched to one side of the drum after a spin, so the load reads oddly
  • A fault in the load-sensing circuit, so a normal load is not recognised

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Open the door and check there is actually laundry in the drum.
  2. If the load is tiny, add a couple of extra items and restart the drying programme.
  3. Shake the washing loose and spread it around the drum before closing the door and starting again.
  4. Turn the machine off at the socket for a minute, then switch back on and retry the drying programme.

When to call someone

This sometimes clears with the checks above. If it comes back, it needs looking at properly. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
