What E41 actually means

The fan that moves hot air through the drum during drying isn't shifting enough air, so the machine has stopped the drying part of the cycle.

This code only concerns the drying side of a Beko washer-dryer. The control board watches the process fan — the blower that pushes heated air through the drum and back through the condenser — and if it doesn't run, runs weakly or the air path is blocked, it shuts drying down to stop the heaters cooking anything. Washing itself will usually still work; it's the dry that fails, often after clothes come out damp.

What usually causes it

  • A blocked condenser restricting the airflow
  • The process fan motor seized or failed
  • A faulty fan capacitor, or a poor connection at the fan socket
  • Fan relay on the control board gone open circuit
  • The fan's thermal cut-out having tripped from overheating

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then try a short drying cycle to see if the code returns
  2. Clear the drain filter of fluff and debris — a poorly draining machine can leave water where the condenser needs to work
  3. Check the drain hose isn't kinked or pushed too far down the standpipe
  4. Try washing only, without a dry, to confirm the fault is limited to the drying stage

When to call someone

This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
