Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What E45 actually means

The machine's control board has lost, or never received, the settings file that tells it which model it is and how to run its programmes, so it refuses to start.

Every Beko control board is loaded with a "variable file" — the data that matches the board to your particular model and its programme list. When the board can't read that file, or reads one that doesn't belong to the machine, it stops before anything happens: no water, no drum movement, and the programme lights usually flash. This is a fault in the electronics, not in anything mechanical like the pump, drum or heater.

What usually causes it

  • Corrupted or missing settings data on the main control board
  • A replacement control board fitted without the correct model file loaded
  • Failure of the memory on the main board itself
  • Power surge or interruption that scrambled the stored data

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the machine off at the wall socket, leave it a minute, then switch back on and try starting a programme — occasionally the board reads its data correctly on the second attempt
  2. Check the machine is on a normal working socket and not through an extension lead or adaptor

When to call someone

This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
