Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What E82 actually means

The machine's main control board has a fault in the part of it that switches the door lock, so it stops rather than run a cycle it can't control safely.

Beko's own service data ties this code to a short-circuited door-lock switching device on the control card, sometimes alongside other switching faults on the same board (pump control, motor phase). Because the board can no longer be certain it is in charge of locking the door, the programme is abandoned. In practice the machine may lock and refuse to release, or stop dead early in the cycle with the door still held shut.

What usually causes it

  • A failed switching component on the main control board (the usual finding)
  • Moisture or a leak that has reached the control board
  • A short in the door lock itself dragging the board's output down
  • Power surge or spike damage to the board

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Switch off at the wall, leave it a minute, then switch back on — this clears the odd one-off reading
  2. If the door has released, check nothing is trapped in the seal and close it firmly, then try a short cycle
  3. If the door stays locked, wait a few minutes — the lock can take time to release once power is off

When to call someone

This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
