What E84 actually means
The machine's Wi-Fi/Bluetooth side isn't talking to the rest of the appliance, so the smart features won't connect.
E84 means the control display has lost communication with the network (Wi-Fi/Bluetooth) board inside the machine. It's a connectivity fault, not a washing fault \u2014 the drum, water and heating side is unaffected. You can still run wash cycles; you'll only lose app control through HomeWhiz.
What usually causes it
- The network board has come loose from its plug internally
- A damaged or poorly seated ribbon cable between the boards
- The machine was never properly paired or set up in the HomeWhiz app
- A faulty Wi-Fi/Bluetooth board
- A faulty display/control board
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall socket for a minute, then switch it back on \u \ this clears a lot of one-off communication glitches
- Re-run the setup in the HomeWhiz app: delete the appliance from the app and add it again
- Check your home Wi-Fi is working and that the router is within reasonable range of the machine (2.4GHz networks only)
- Restart your router and try pairing again
When to call someone
This sometimes clears with the checks above. If it comes back, it needs looking at properly. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed.
