Beko F05 washing machine: what it means & what to check

What F05 actually means

The machine has a problem with its drain pump \u2014 it can't empty the water out, so the cycle stalls with the drum still full.

The control board watches the drain pump circuit and flags F05 when the pump reads as short circuit or open circuit, or when it is jammed and not shifting water. In practice you'll notice the programme dragging on far longer than it should, water left in the drum and no spin at the end. The machine holds there rather than carrying on, because spinning a tub full of water would only make a mess.

What F05 looks like on a Beko washing machine

What usually causes it

Pump blocked by a coin, hair grip, button or fluff
Pump motor failed or its winding gone open circuit
Blocked or kinked drain hose, or a blocked filter stopping the pump doing its job
Fault in the pump's switching circuit on the control board

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then power up and try a rinse and spin \u2014 sometimes it clears a one-off.
Empty and clean the pump filter behind the small door at the bottom front (put a shallow tray and towels down first \u2014 there will be water). Check for coins, hair grips and fluff around the filter housing.
Check the drain hose isn't kinked, trapped behind the machine or pushed too far down the standpipe.
If the hose runs into a sink trap spigot, make sure that connection isn't blocked with grease.
