Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What F06 actually means

The control board has found a fault in the part of its circuitry that switches the drum motor, so it has stopped the machine rather than let the drum run out of control.

Inside the main electronic module there's a switching device (a triac) that turns the motor on and off and controls its speed. When the board detects that this has short-circuited, it can no longer be sure it can stop the motor, so it shuts the cycle down. Owners usually notice the drum spinning when it shouldn't, or the machine dying part-way through a wash with the code shown.

What usually causes it

  • A failed motor triac on the main control board
  • Damaged or loose wiring between the board and the motor
  • Moisture or a leak reaching the control module
  • A faulty motor drawing more current than the board can switch
  • Damage after a power surge

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the machine off at the wall socket for a minute, then switch back on and try a short cycle — occasionally the code clears if it was a one-off glitch.
  2. If the code returns straight away, or the drum spins when it shouldn't, leave it switched off at the wall.

When to call someone

This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
