Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What F08 actually means

The machine has spotted a fault in the electronics that switch the drain pump on and off, so it has stopped the cycle rather than carry on.

Beko's control board uses a small switching component (a triac) to power the drain pump. When that switch fails, the board either can't run the pump or can't turn it off, so on these machines F08 usually shows alongside one of two symptoms: no drain and no spin, or a machine that pumps out continuously and never fills properly. The control card detects the abnormality and halts the programme to avoid draining fresh water straight back out.

What usually causes it

  • Failed pump switching circuit on the main control board
  • Loose or corroded plug on the pump wiring at the board
  • Drain pump itself failed or seized, damaging the switching circuit
  • Water damage to the control board from a small leak underneath

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on — occasionally the code clears and won't return.
  2. Clean the pump filter behind the flap at the bottom front and check nothing (coins, buttons) is blocking it.
  3. Check the drain hose isn't kinked or pushed too far down the standpipe.
  4. Make sure the drum has actually emptied before you try another cycle.

When to call someone

This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
