What E08 actually means
The dishwasher has lost control of the valve that switches water between the upper and lower spray arms, so it stops rather than carry on washing.
These ElectriQ machines have a diverter valve in the pump housing that alternates the flow between the top and bottom spray arms during a cycle. The control board watches that valve and, if it doesn't see it move to the position it asked for, it flags E08 and halts. In practice you'll often notice poor wash results on one basket beforehand — plates clean on the bottom, still dirty on top, or the other way round.
What E08 looks like on a ElectriQ dishwasher
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a ElectriQ dishwasher, E08 usually shows up as one or more of these:

What usually causes it
- Diverter valve motor jammed or failed
- Wiring or plug connection to the diverter valve gone loose
- Debris in the pump housing stopping the valve turning
- Control board not reading the valve's position correctly
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the dishwasher off at the wall for a minute, then switch on and run a short cycle — occasionally the board clears a one-off reading
- Take out the filter in the base and rinse it under the tap, clearing any glass, grit or food debris
- Check both spray arms spin freely by hand and that the holes are not blocked; a dish stopping an arm can look like a wash fault
- Make sure the drain hose is not kinked behind the machine
