What E09 actually means
The dishwasher thinks one of its buttons is being held down and has stopped responding to the control panel.
The control board watches how long each touch button or switch is pressed. If it sees a single button held for more than 30 seconds, it decides the button is stuck rather than being pressed on purpose, and shuts the programme selection down rather than starting a cycle on a bad input. You will usually see the code appear as soon as the machine is switched on or as soon as you try to select a programme, and on the EQDW60PW it is often accompanied by the buzzer sounding.
What E09 looks like on a ElectriQ dishwasher

- Dishwasher door won't open
- Door won't lock or click shut
- Door lock light flashing
- Door stuck shut with the load inside

What usually causes it
- Water or spilled detergent sitting on the control panel bridging a button
- A button physically jammed \u2014 trapped by a swollen or distorted fascia
- Something resting against the panel while the door is closed, such as a tea towel or a worktop item
- Damp getting behind the fascia from steam escaping around the door seal
- Failed touch panel or control board that reads a permanent press
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the dishwasher off at the wall for a minute, then switch it back on \u2014 if the button was only briefly stuck this clears it
- Wipe the control panel dry with a cloth, especially around the programme and on/off buttons, and let it air for a while if it has been wet
- Press each button once and feel whether any stays depressed or feels spongy compared with the others
- Check nothing is leaning on the panel or trapped between the door and the worktop
