The machine's control board has failed its own memory check, so it won't run a wash.

When it powers up, the control board reads the small memory chip that holds its settings and programme data. If that read fails, it reports E41 and stops rather than running a cycle with settings it can't trust. It's an electronic fault on the board itself, not a water, drain or door problem.
