What E80 actually means
The two circuit boards inside the machine — the one behind the buttons and the main board underneath — have stopped talking to each other, so the machine shuts down mid-cycle.
ElectriQ machines run the display and controls on one board and the main control on another, linked by a ribbon-type communication cable. When the main board stops receiving signals from the display panel, the machine cuts the pump and stops, leaving the code on screen. It's a wiring or board fault, not anything to do with water, drainage or the drum.
What usually causes it
- The communication cable between the display and main board has worked loose
- A broken or chafed wire in that cable run
- Failed communication terminal on the main control board
- Failed communication terminal on the display board
- Damp or corrosion on the board connections
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall socket, leave it for a minute, then switch back on — a single glitch will sometimes clear
- Check the machine isn't standing damp or in a spot where water has run down behind the control panel
When to call someone
This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.
Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
