What F14 actually means
The machine doesn't believe the door is properly shut, so it won't start the cycle.
Before any water goes in, the machine checks the door lock has engaged. If it doesn't get that confirmation, it holds the programme and shows this code rather than risk filling with the door unlatched. On these ElectriQ machines it is usually the catch or the lock itself, not the electronics.
What usually causes it
- Door pushed to but not clicked shut
- Laundry or a stray sock trapped in the door seal stopping it closing fully
- Door catch worn or slightly out of line so the lock can't grip
- Faulty door lock (the interlock has failed to confirm it is closed)
- Hinge dropped slightly on a heavily loaded machine
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Open the door fully and close it again firmly until you hear it click, then press Start/Pause
- Check nothing is caught in the rubber seal or hanging over the door edge
- Take some washing out if the drum is packed tight against the door
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, switch back on and try the programme again
When to call someone
This sometimes clears with the checks above. If it comes back, it needs looking at properly. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.
Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
