Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What E64 actually means

The machine's main control board has lost contact with the board that drives the motor, so it won't start or continue the wash.

On ElectriQ models with a BLDC (brushless inverter) motor, the main control board sends a command to the motor inverter board and waits for a reply. If nothing comes back within 20 seconds, the machine cuts the power to the inverter for two minutes to reset it and tries again — up to seven times — before giving up and showing the code. You'll usually see it either the moment you press start, or mid-cycle with the drum stopping dead.

What usually causes it

  • A fault on the motor inverter board itself
  • A fault on the main control board
  • A loose or damaged plug on the wiring between the two boards
  • Poor mains supply — low or unstable voltage
  • A drum that is physically obstructed and stalling the motor

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Switch the machine off at the wall socket, leave it a couple of minutes, then switch back on — the machine's own reset routine relies on the same principle and sometimes a full power-down clears a one-off communication glitch.
  2. Open the door and turn the drum by hand to feel that it moves freely and nothing is jammed inside it.
  3. If the machine is on an extension lead or adaptor, plug it straight into a wall socket instead.

When to call someone

This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
