What E62 actually means
The drum motor is spinning faster than the machine asked it to, so the machine shuts the wash down to protect itself.
ElectriQ's control board watches the motor speed against the speed it has commanded. If the drum runs around 300rpm above target, the board flags E62 and stops. In their own service notes the usual culprit is the SCR (triac) on the main PCB failing so it can no longer throttle the motor properly; a faulty motor speed sensor (tacho) is the other possibility.
What usually causes it
- A failed SCR/triac on the main control board, letting the motor run away
- A damaged motor speed sensor giving the board false readings
- Loose or fallen-off connections on the motor's speed sensor wiring
- A faulty motor
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then power it back up and try a short cycle — if it was a one-off glitch it will clear
- Note whether it fails as the drum starts to speed up for the spin, and what noise it makes; that helps whoever attends
When to call someone
This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.
Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
