What C11 actually means

C11 isn't a fault \ostic \ it's the position in Electrolux's engineer diagnostic menu that plays back the machine's last three stored error codes.

On these Electrolux washer dryers the programme dial and start/pause button can be used to enter a service diagnostic mode, and step 11 of that sequence is the alarm memory readout. When it's selected the display shows C11, then the three most recent alarms in turn, newest first, in the Exx format (for example E20 for a blocked drain filter). If you're seeing C11 rather than an Exx code, the machine has been put into diagnostic mode \u2014 usually by accident, or left there after someone has been looking at it \u2014 and it isn't reporting a fault of its own.

The dial and buttons have been pressed in the combination that opens diagnostic mode, often by accident or by a child

Buttons sticking or being held down as the machine is switched on

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and select a normal programme; that clears diagnostic mode in most cases
Turn the programme dial to off before switching on again, rather than leaving it mid-programme
If a code such as E10 (water not filling) or E20 (drain blocked) came up in the readout, check the tap is fully open, the inlet hose isn't kinked, and clean the drain filter
