What E69 actually means
The machine has found a break in the circuit that heats the water, so it stops rather than carry on washing cold.
During the wash, the control board watches the heating element circuit. If it reads no continuity through the element for longer than the set time, it logs E69 and halts the cycle. On these models the machine may run a safety water fill to cover the element before it releases the door.
What usually causes it
- Heating element burnt out or open internally eaching the end of its life
- Thermal fuse or overheat protection tripped in the element circuit
- Loose or corroded connection at the element
- Fault in the heater relay circuit on the control board
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then power it back up and reset the cycle or press Start/Pause to clear the alarm
- If the alarm returns on the next wash, note whether it happens at the same point each time othing else here is safe to check
When to call someone
This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.
Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
