Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What E70 actually means

The machine can't read the water temperature, so it refuses to heat.

Electrolux washers use an NTC temperature sensor built into the heating element to tell the control board how hot the water is. If that sensor's circuit reads as open (broken) or short-circuited, the board stops trusting it and skips the heating phase altogether. You'll typically get a wash that runs through but comes out cold, or a cycle that halts with E70 displayed.

What usually causes it

  • Failed NTC temperature sensor in the heating element
  • Damaged or corroded wiring between the sensor and the control board
  • A loose or wet connection at the sensor plug
  • Water leaking onto the element/sensor connections
  • Fault on the main control board reading the sensor circuit

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then power it up and start a short cycle — occasionally it's a one-off reading glitch
  2. Run a cold-only programme to confirm the machine works otherwise (the wash won't heat)

When to call someone

This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
