What E97 actually means
The dryer's control board and the programme selector don't agree on which cycle you've chosen, so it won't run anything.
Electrolux dryers store a table of cycles in the control electronics, and the selector tells the board which one to load. With E97 the board can't find a matching programme for the position the selector is in, so it treats the request as invalid and interrupts the cycle. This is a configuration or software mismatch inside the machine, not anything to do with the load, the filter or the heat exchanger.
What E97 looks like on a Electrolux tumble dryer
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Electrolux tumble dryer, E97 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Not drying
- Blowing cold air
- Clothes still damp at the end
- Takes hours to dry
- No function at all
- Dead — nothing lights up
- Lights flashing and nothing happening
- Programme won't start
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- Configuration data in the control board doesn't match the model's cycle list
- Control board fitted or reprogrammed with the wrong software after a previous repair
- Selector or user interface board not communicating its position correctly
- Corrupted stored settings in the control electronics
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Switch the dryer off at the wall for a minute, then back on and try selecting the programme again
- Try a different programme on the dial or panel to see whether the fault only appears on one setting
