What E26 actually means

The fridge has spotted that one of its UVC lamps — the ultraviolet lamp used to keep air or a storage compartment hygienic — has stopped working.

The control software monitors each UVC lamp and flags E26 as soon as any one of them fails to respond. The lamp itself is a sealed part with its own supply, and the cooling side of the appliance is not part of this check, so the fridge and freezer normally carry on holding temperature as usual. What you lose is the ultraviolet function, not refrigeration.

What E26 looks like on a Flavel fridge freezer

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Flavel fridge freezer, E26 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Not cooling
  • Freezer not freezing
  • Ice building up at the back
  • Food going off in the fridge
  • Running constantly and never getting cold
  • No function at all
  • Dead — nothing lights up
  • Lights flashing and nothing happening

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • The UVC lamp itself has reached the end of its life
  • A loose or corroded plug on the lamp's supply lead
  • Failure of the driver or supply feeding the lamp
  • A control board fault causing a false reading, which is less common than the lamp itself

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Switch the appliance off at the wall for a minute and back on — if the lamp was only briefly out of contact, the code may clear
  2. Check the fridge and freezer are still holding temperature normally, so you know the food is safe while you wait for a repair

Which Flavel models show E26

E26 means the same thing on all 2 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.
