What E00 actually means

The freezer's air temperature sensor has stopped giving the control board a sensible reading, so the fridge freezer no longer knows how cold the freezer actually is.

Inside the freezer there's a small sensor that measures the air temperature and tells the main board when to run the compressor. When the board sees a reading that is out of range, open circuit or short, it flags this fault and falls back to running the compressor on a fixed timed pattern instead of on temperature. That means the appliance usually carries on cooling, but the freezer can end up too warm or too cold, and on these Flavel models the code is normally shown flashing on the display.

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the appliance off at the socket for a minute and back on — if the reading was a momentary glitch the code may clear
Check the freezer door is closing and sealing properly, and that nothing is holding it ajar
Make sure packets and drawers are not jammed against the back wall or blocking the air vents inside the freezer
If there is a lot of frost inside, empty the freezer and let it defrost fully, then restart it — sometimes the code clears once the ice is gone
Note whether the freezer is still getting cold; if food is thawing, move it elsewhere
