What E08 actually means
The temperature sensor inside the ice maker section has stopped giving the control board a sensible reading.
E08 is an Icematic air sensor error — the small probe that tells the board how cold the ice-making compartment is. When that reading goes open circuit or out of range, the board flags E08 and the ice maker is taken out of use. The fridge and freezer themselves normally carry on cooling as usual, so in most cases the only thing you notice is that ice production stops.
What E08 looks like on a Flavel fridge freezer
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Flavel fridge freezer, E08 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Fridge freezer door won't open
- Door won't lock or click shut
- Door lock light flashing
- Door stuck shut with the load inside
- Won't start even with the door closed
- Not filling with water
- No water going in
- Takes for ever to fill
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- A loose or corroded plug on the ice maker sensor wiring
- The sensor itself having failed and gone open circuit
- Damaged wiring to the ice maker, often where it runs to the door or compartment
- A fault on the control board reading the sensor
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the appliance off at the wall for a minute and switch it back on — an occasional false reading will clear and not return
- Check the ice maker is switched on and the water supply is not turned off, so you know whether ice production has genuinely stopped
- Make sure nothing is jammed in or packed tightly against the ice compartment
Which Flavel models show E08
E08 means the same thing on all 2 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.

Can I fix Flavel E08 myself?
There are 3 checks you can safely do yourself first.
- Turn the appliance off at the wall for a minute and switch it back on — an occasional false reading will clear and not return.
- Check the ice maker is switched on and the water supply is not turned off, so you know whether ice production has genuinely stopped.
- Make sure nothing is jammed in or packed tightly against the ice compartment.

Tried the checks and it's still showing E08?
This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. Then it wants someone who can open it up.
