What E15 actually means
The fan that cools the condenser coil at the back of the appliance isn't reporting back to the control board, so the machine has flagged it as failed.
Flavel fridge freezers of this type use a fan to draw air over the condenser and compressor to throw out the heat pulled from inside the cabinet. The board watches that fan's speed signal, and if it doesn't get one it logs E15. Without that airflow the compressor runs hot and the whole system loses efficiency, so the freezer can start drifting warmer even though the compressor sounds like it's working.
What E15 looks like on a Flavel fridge freezer
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Flavel fridge freezer, E15 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Fridge freezer door won't open
- Door won't lock or click shut
- Door lock light flashing
- Door stuck shut with the load inside
- Won't start even with the door closed
- Not heating the water
- Washing coming out cold
- Cycle takes far longer than it should
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- The condenser fan motor has failed or seized
- Dust, fluff or pet hair choking the condenser and fan blades
- A loose or damaged plug on the fan's feedback wiring
- The fan blade fouling on ice or debris and stalling
- Less commonly, a fault on the control board reading the fan signal
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the appliance off at the wall for a minute, then back on, and see whether the code returns after the fan should have run
- Pull the appliance out slightly if you can do so safely and check the rear ventilation gap isn't blocked by packaging, bags or a wall too close behind
- Vacuum any visible dust from the grille or vents at the back or base — no panels off, and only with the plug out
- Keep door openings to a minimum and don't put hot food in until it's fixed, as the appliance is already struggling to shed heat
- Check nothing has been stored on top of or against the rear of the cabinet restricting airflow
Which Flavel models show E15
E15 means the same thing on all 2 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.

Can I fix Flavel E15 myself?
There are 5 checks you can safely do yourself first.
- Turn the appliance off at the wall for a minute, then back on, and see whether the code returns after the fan should have run.
- Pull the appliance out slightly if you can do so safely and check the rear ventilation gap isn't blocked by packaging, bags or a wall too close behind.
- Vacuum any visible dust from the grille or vents at the back or base — no panels off, and only with the plug out.

- Check nothing has been stored on top of or against the rear of the cabinet restricting airflow.
This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried them.
How much does it cost to repair Flavel E15?
£66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it, or £84 in total including VAT if it is put right on the visit and no parts are needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.
Tried the checks and it's still showing E15?
This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. Then it wants someone who can open it up.
