What E22 actually means
The fridge freezer's network (Wi-Fi) card has failed a connection test, so the appliance can't talk to your home network — the cooling itself is not the problem.
During its self-check the control board runs a "ping" test to confirm the network card is present and responding. When that test can't be completed, the display flashes this code. The fault for it starts at the network card connector on the control board, which tells you it's a communications fault rather than anything to do with the compressor, fans or sensors — the fridge and freezer should carry on holding temperature normally.
What E22 looks like on a Flavel fridge freezer
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Flavel fridge freezer, E22 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Not cooling
- Freezer not freezing
- Ice building up at the back
- Food going off in the fridge
- Running constantly and never getting cold
- No function at all
- Dead — nothing lights up
- Lights flashing and nothing happening
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- The network card's plug has worked loose from the control board
- A faulty network (Wi-Fi) module
- Home router or broadband down, or the appliance out of Wi-Fi range
- The appliance was never fully paired to the network, or lost its pairing after a router change
- A fault on the control board itself
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Check your broadband is working on a phone or tablet standing near the fridge freezer — a weak signal in the kitchen is a common reason for this
- Turn the appliance off at the wall socket for a minute, then switch back on and see whether the code clears
- Restart your router, then give the appliance a few minutes to reconnect
- If you use the manufacturer's app, run the connection or pairing routine again from the start
Which Flavel models show E22
E22 means the same thing on all 2 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.

Can I fix Flavel E22 myself?
There are 4 checks you can safely do yourself first.
- Check your broadband is working on a phone or tablet standing near the fridge freezer — a weak signal in the kitchen is a common reason for this.

- Restart your router, then give the appliance a few minutes to reconnect.
- If you use the manufacturer's app, run the connection or pairing routine again from the start.
This sometimes clears with those checks. If it comes back, it needs looking at properly.
