What E23 actually means
The fridge freezer's network connection has failed a self-check — it can't reach the network it's meant to talk to. It isn't a cooling fault.
E23 is logged when the appliance runs a ping test and gets no response, so the control board flags that the network side isn't communicating. It sits alongside E22 as the same 'ping test couldn't be done' condition, and the service flow starts by checking whether the network card connector on the control board is properly attached. Your food stays cold and the compressor, fans and defrost cycle carry on as normal — what you lose is the connected features.
What E23 looks like on a Flavel fridge freezer
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Flavel fridge freezer, E23 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Not cooling
- Freezer not freezing
- Ice building up at the back
- Food going off in the fridge
- Running constantly and never getting cold
- No function at all
- Dead — nothing lights up
- Lights flashing and nothing happening
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- Home Wi-Fi or router down, or the appliance out of range of it
- The appliance never fully paired to the network in the first place
- Loose or unseated connector between the network card and the control board
- Faulty network/Wi-Fi module
- Control board fault reporting the failed ping
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Check your home Wi-Fi is actually working on a phone standing next to the fridge freezer — a weak signal at the back of the kitchen is a common cause
- Restart your router and give the appliance a few minutes to reconnect
- Switch the appliance off at the socket for a minute, then back on, and see whether the code clears
- If your model connects through an app, run the setup/pairing process again from the start
Which Flavel models show E23
E23 means the same thing on all 2 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.

Can I fix Flavel E23 myself?
There are 4 checks you can safely do yourself first.
- Check your home Wi-Fi is actually working on a phone standing next to the fridge freezer — a weak signal at the back of the kitchen is a common cause.
- Restart your router and give the appliance a few minutes to reconnect.
- Switch the appliance off at the socket for a minute, then back on, and see whether the code clears.
- If your model connects through an app, run the setup/pairing process again from the start.
This sometimes clears with those checks. If it comes back, it needs looking at properly.
