What E20 actually means

The temperature sensor for the Biofresh (crisper/fresh-storage) drawer has stopped giving the control board a sensible reading.

Each compartment has its own air sensor telling the control board how cold it is in there. On E20 the board has lost a believable signal from the Biofresh compartment's air sensor — either an open circuit, a short, or a resistance well outside the expected range — so it flags the fault and falls back on a default cooling pattern for that drawer. The fridge and freezer sections normally carry on running, but the Biofresh drawer is no longer being held at its proper temperature.

A fault on the control board reading the sensor (less common)

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the appliance off at the socket for a minute, then switch back on — if the reading glitched rather than failed, the code clears and stays clear
Note whether the code returns straight away or after a few hours; that is genuinely useful information for the engineer
Check the Biofresh drawer isn't overfilled or packed hard against the back wall, blocking airflow over the sensor
Move anything delicate — salad, fish, meat — out of the Biofresh drawer into the main fridge until it's fixed
