What E05 actually means
The sensor that tells your fridge freezer how warm and humid the room around it is has stopped reporting properly.
Flavel's control board watches an ambient temperature/humidity sensor so it can adjust how hard the appliance works in a hot or damp kitchen. When the reading from that sensor goes out of range or disappears altogether, the board flags E05 and falls back on default settings rather than reacting to room conditions. Cooling normally carries on, so the first thing most people notice is the blinking code rather than warm food.
What E05 looks like on a Flavel fridge freezer
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Flavel fridge freezer, E05 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Fridge freezer door won't open
- Door won't lock or click shut
- Door lock light flashing
- Door stuck shut with the load inside
- Won't start even with the door closed
- Not cooling
- Freezer not freezing
- Ice building up at the back
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- A loose or corroded plug on the ambient/humidity sensor — the first check is the cabling
- The sensor itself has failed or drifted out of range
- Damp getting into the sensor connection, common where the appliance sits in a cold garage or utility room
- A control board fault reading the sensor circuit
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the appliance off at the socket for a minute, then back on — a genuine one-off glitch can clear
- Keep the doors shut as much as possible and don't put hot food straight in; the service notes warn that frequent door opening and hot food make temperature problems worse while the appliance is running on defaults
- Check nothing is pressed hard against the back or sides and that there's air space around the cabinet
Which Flavel models show E05
E05 means the same thing on all 2 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.
