Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What E06 actually means

The machine has decided the water heater isn't doing its job, so it has stopped rather than carry on with a cold wash.

On the Haden washing machine the control board watches the heating element while the drum water is being brought up to temperature. If it sees no heating, or the element circuit looks wrong, it halts the programme and shows this code. Typically the wash stops part way through with water still in the drum, and the load comes out cold and often not properly rinsed.

What usually causes it

  • A failed heating element in the bottom of the drum
  • A loose or corroded connection at the element
  • Element damaged by heavy limescale in hard water areas
  • A fault on the main control board's heating circuit

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then restart a short cold-wash programme — if it completes without the code, the fault is on heating only.
  2. Clear the pump filter and check the drain hose isn't kinked so any water left in the drum can be emptied on a drain or spin programme.
  3. Try a 20°C or cold programme to finish the load you have in there while you wait for a repair.

When to call someone

This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
