What E30 actually means

The machine doesn't believe the door is properly shut, so it won't start or carry on with the wash.

Haden washers check the door lock before they'll let water in or the drum turn. If that lock doesn't confirm it is engaged, the cycle halts and E30 appears \u2014 usually with the drum still full of laundry and the door feeling shut. The manual's own remedy is to close the door properly and restart, and to check nothing is caught in the way.

What usually causes it

  • Clothing trapped between the door seal and the frame, holding it a few millimetres open
  • Door pushed to rather than pressed until it clicks
  • Drum overloaded so laundry pushes back against the glass
  • Worn or sticking door catch that no longer latches firmly
  • Failed door interlock switch, which is the usual outcome when the door genuinely does shut

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Open the door and pull any trapped laundry back inside, especially towels and duvet edges near the hinge side
  2. Push the door firmly until you hear it click, then restart the cycle
  3. Take a couple of items out if the drum is packed tight and try again
  4. Wipe the rim of the seal and the frame where they meet \u2014 detergent residue can stop the door seating
  5. Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, switch back on and restart

When to call someone

This sometimes clears with the checks above. If it comes back, it needs looking at properly. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
