What E60 actually means
The drum motor isn't turning when the machine asks it to, so the wash has stopped.
The control board sends a command for the motor to run, and it tried five times without the motor responding. Rather than keep trying, the machine gives up and shows the fault. In practice you'll see a drum that sits still while the programme appears to be running, or a cycle that halts early with water still in the tub.
What usually causes it
- A failed or broken connection in the wiring between the control board and the motor
- A faulty drum motor
- A fault on the main control board (PCB)
- Something jamming the drum so it cannot turn freely
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch it back on and restart a short cycle — occasionally the board clears a one-off communication glitch
- With the machine switched off at the wall, open the door and turn the drum by hand to check nothing is trapped and it spins freely
- If there's water in the drum, run a drain or spin-only programme to see whether the pump still empties it
