Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What E02 actually means

The machine hasn't taken in enough water in the time it allows, so it has stopped rather than run dry.

Hoover machines watch the water level during filling and expect it to reach the right point within a set time. If the level sensor (pressure switch) doesn't confirm enough water by then, filling is abandoned and E02 is shown door still locked, drum barely wet. It's a fill fault, not a drain fault the drum is empty or nearly so.

What usually causes it

  • Water tap turned off or only part open
  • Kinked, trapped or blocked fill hose
  • Blocked filter in the fill hose or inlet valve inlet screen
  • Faulty water inlet (solenoid) valve not opening
  • Faulty pressure switch or its hose misreading the water level
  • Low mains water pressure in the house

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Check the water tap behind the machine is fully open
  2. Run a nearby cold tap to confirm you have normal water pressure
  3. Pull the machine forward gently and make sure the fill hose isn't kinked or crushed against the wall
  4. Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then power up and try a short cycle

When to call someone

This sometimes clears with the checks above. If it comes back, it needs looking at properly. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
