What F65 actually means
The machine has spotted that the cover over the drum light inside the wash drum is missing or not seated, and it won't run until that's put right.
Miele washer dryers with an interior drum light have a small protective cap or lens over the lamp where it sits in the drum. The control board monitors that this cap is in place, and if it reports as missing the cycle is stopped rather than allowed to continue with an unprotected light fitting exposed to water and tumbling laundry. It is one of the more unusual codes to see, and it is nearly always exactly what it says rather than an electronics fault.
What F65 looks like on a Miele washer dryer
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Miele washer dryer, F65 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Machine not draining
- Water left in the drum at the end of the cycle
- Stops mid-cycle full of water
- Standing water in the bottom
- No function at all
- Dead — nothing lights up
- Lights flashing and nothing happening
- Programme won't start
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- The drum light cover has worked loose and fallen off inside the drum
- The cap was not clipped back correctly after a lamp was changed or the drum was cleaned
- A cracked or damaged cap that no longer sits properly in its housing
- Less often, the detection circuit for the cap is at fault even though the cover is present
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Empty the drum and look for a small clear or plastic cover lying in with the washing or caught in the drum ribs — it often turns up in the load
- Check the light housing inside the drum: if the cap is there but sitting proud, it may not be clipped home
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on to see whether the code clears
- If you find the cap loose in the drum, keep it — it saves fitting a new one

What does F65 mean on a Miele washer dryer?

Can I fix Miele F65 myself?
There are 4 checks you can safely do yourself first.
- Empty the drum and look for a small clear or plastic cover lying in with the washing or caught in the drum ribs — it often turns up in the load.
- Check the light housing inside the drum: if the cap is there but sitting proud, it may not be clipped home.
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on to see whether the code clears.
- If you find the cap loose in the drum, keep it — it saves fitting a new one.
This sometimes clears with those checks. If it comes back, it needs looking at properly.
