Miele F01 washer dryer: what it means & what to check

What F01 actually means

The machine has lost a sensible reading from the temperature sensor that watches the water, and has stopped rather than heat blind.

Miele's control board reads water temperature through an NTC sensor in the tub. On F1 the resistance it sees is far too low — a short circuit — so the board cannot tell whether the water is cold or scalding. Because heating without a trustworthy temperature reading is not safe, the programme is halted, usually early on once heating should have begun. On a washer dryer the same fault often shows up as a cycle that fills and turns but never gets warm.

What F01 looks like on a Miele washer dryer

Not filling with water
No water going in
Takes for ever to fill
Stops right at the start of the cycle

What usually causes it

Failed NTC temperature sensor in the wash tub
Damaged or chafed wiring to the sensor, or moisture in its plug
A corroded connector at the sensor end
Control electronics misreading the sensor circuit

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
