What F01 actually means

The machine has lost a sensible reading from the temperature sensor that watches the water, and has stopped rather than heat blind.

Miele's control board reads water temperature through an NTC sensor in the tub. On F1 the resistance it sees is far too low — a short circuit — so the board cannot tell whether the water is cold or scalding. Because heating without a trustworthy temperature reading is not safe, the programme is halted, usually early on once heating should have begun. On a washer dryer the same fault often shows up as a cycle that fills and turns but never gets warm.

What F01 looks like on a Miele washer dryer

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Miele washer dryer, F01 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Not filling with water
  • No water going in
  • Takes for ever to fill
  • Stops right at the start of the cycle
  • Not drying
  • Blowing cold air
  • Clothes still damp at the end
  • Takes hours to dry

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • Failed NTC temperature sensor in the wash tub
  • Damaged or chafed wiring to the sensor, or moisture in its plug
  • A corroded connector at the sensor end
  • Control electronics misreading the sensor circuit

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and restart a programme — an occasional one-off reading will clear
  2. Note whether the drum water ever gets warm, and on which programmes the fault appears; that helps the engineer
