What F41 actually means
The machine's control board has lost or corrupted the settings stored in its memory, so it won't run a programme.
Miele washer dryers keep their configuration and calibration data — model type, programme data, service counters — in a memory chip on the control electronics. F41 is raised when the board reads that stored data back and finds it missing or scrambled, so it halts rather than run a cycle on figures it can't trust. It is a fault inside the electronics, not something in the water, drain or drum.
What F41 looks like on a Miele washer dryer
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Miele washer dryer, F41 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Machine not draining
- Water left in the drum at the end of the cycle
- Stops mid-cycle full of water
- Standing water in the bottom
- No function at all
- Dead — nothing lights up
- Lights flashing and nothing happening

- Turn the machine off at the wall socket, leave it for a minute, then switch back on — occasionally a one-off read error clears and the machine runs normally
- Note whether the code returns straight away, part way through a cycle, or only sometimes; that is genuinely useful information for whoever attends
