What F43 actually means
The machine's control board hasn't been told which model it's fitted to, so it won't run any programme until that setting is entered.
Every Miele washer dryer control board is generic until it's programmed with the model type — that setting tells it drum size, heater, spin speeds and which programmes to offer. F43 means the board has powered up and found that information missing or never written, so it stops rather than run the wrong cycle. It's a data fault, not a mechanical one: nothing is broken in the drum, pump or heater.
What F43 looks like on a Miele washer dryer
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Miele washer dryer, F43 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Not drying
- Blowing cold air
- Clothes still damp at the end
- Takes hours to dry
- No function at all
- Dead — nothing lights up
- Lights flashing and nothing happening
- Programme won't start
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- A replacement control board fitted but not programmed to the machine
- Programming interrupted or not completed during a previous repair
- Stored settings on the board lost or corrupted
- A board fitted from a different Miele model
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute and back on — occasionally the board reads its data correctly on a fresh start
- Check there is no part-finished repair or service visit outstanding on the machine, and mention it when you book
