What F15 actually means
The machine has called for hot water and not received enough of it through the hot fill hose.
Miele washer dryers plumbed for both hot and cold fill monitor how much water actually arrives on each intake. When the programme asks for hot water and the expected amount does not turn up in the time allowed, the cycle is halted and F15 is displayed. It is specific to the hot supply — the cold side has its own separate fault code, so a machine showing F15 will often have filled perfectly well on cold beforehand.
What F15 looks like on a Miele washer dryer
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Miele washer dryer, F15 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Not filling with water
- No water going in
- Takes for ever to fill
- Stops right at the start of the cycle
- F15 flashing on the display
- Beeping and showing F15
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- Hot water stopcock or tap behind the machine turned off or only part open
- Kinked or crushed hot inlet hose where the machine has been pushed back
- Blocked filter in the hot inlet hose connection
- No hot water reaching that point in the house — boiler off, or airlock in the pipework
- Faulty hot water inlet valve or flow meter on the machine
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Check the hot tap or stopcock feeding the machine is fully open, not half turned
- Run the hot tap at a nearby sink to confirm the house is actually producing hot water
- Look behind the machine and make sure the hot hose is not kinked, trapped or bent tight against the wall
- Switch off at the wall for a minute, switch back on and restart the programme to clear the fault
