What E01 actually means
The machine can't confirm the door is locked, so it won't start the wash.
Before filling with water, the washer locks the door and waits for a signal back to say the lock has engaged. If that confirmation doesn't arrive, it stops and shows E01. It's either the door not being properly shut, or the lock mechanism itself has failed.
What E01 looks like on a Montpellier washing machine
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Montpellier washing machine, E01 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Machine door won't open
- Door won't lock or click shut
- Door lock light flashing
- Door stuck shut with the load inside
- Won't start even with the door closed
- Not filling with water
- No water going in
- Takes for ever to fill
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- Door not pushed fully closed, or laundry caught in the seal
- Worn or sticking door catch that won't engage
- Failed door interlock (the electric lock that holds the door shut)
- Loose or damaged wiring to the door lock
- Control board not reading the lock signal
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Open the door and close it again firmly until you hear it click
- Check no clothing, belt or bra strap is trapped between door and seal
- Wipe any detergent build-up off the seal and the catch area
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch on and retry
- Try a different programme to see if the fault repeats
Which Montpellier models show E01
E01 means the same thing on all 17 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.
