What E02 actually means
The machine isn't getting enough water in the time it expects, so it has stopped the wash.
On this Montpellier the E02 code is a "lack of water" fault — the machine has called for water to fill the drum and the level hasn't risen far enough within the allowed time. Rather than run a cycle dry, it halts and shows the code. Nine times out of ten the cause is upstream of the machine: the tap, the inlet hose or a blocked filter where the hose screws on.
What usually causes it
- Water tap turned off or only part open
- Kinked, trapped or crushed inlet hose
- Blocked filter in the inlet hose connection
- Very low water pressure in the house at that moment
- Faulty water inlet valve or pressure sensor inside the machine
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Check the cold water tap behind the machine is fully open.
- Look along the inlet hose for kinks or a crush point where the machine has been pushed back.
- Run a nearby cold tap to confirm you have normal mains pressure.
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, switch back on and restart the programme.
- If a hose is fitted with a small filter at the tap end, close the tap, unscrew the hose by hand and rinse any grit out of the mesh.
When to call someone
This sometimes clears with the checks above. If it comes back, it needs looking at properly. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.
Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
