What E06 actually means
The machine has lost the signal that tells it how fast the drum is turning, so it won't run the motor.
E06 is a motor fault. The control board relies on a small speed sensor (tachometer) on the motor to know how fast the drum is spinning; if that signal is missing or the motor's plug has come loose, the board shuts things down rather than run the motor blind. The drum usually won't turn at all, or the machine stops early in the cycle.
What usually causes it
- Motor speed sensor (tachometer) has failed
- Motor wiring plug has worked loose or a wire has broken
- Worn motor brushes on brush-type motors
- Faulty control board not reading the signal
- Motor itself has failed
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and try a short programme — it may clear a one-off glitch
- Take out some of the load if the drum is packed tight and try again
- Check the drum turns freely by hand with the machine switched off at the wall
When to call someone
This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.
Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
