What E10 actually means
The machine hasn't taken on enough water in the time allowed, so it has stopped and flagged a filling fault.
During filling, the machine watches the water level rise. If the level hasn't changed within about three minutes, it assumes water isn't getting in and halts the cycle. On some Montpellier models the same code is also used for a fault with the pressure (water level) sensor, so if the water supply is clearly fine the sensor or its connection is the suspect.
What usually causes it
- Water tap turned off or only part open
- Fill hose kinked, trapped or squashed behind the machine
- Blocked filter in the inlet hose connection
- Low mains water pressure
- Faulty water level (pressure) sensor or its wiring
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Check the tap feeding the machine is fully open
- Pull the machine out gently and make sure the fill hose isn't kinked or crushed
- Run a nearby cold tap to confirm you have normal water pressure
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then power up and restart the cycle
When to call someone
This sometimes clears with the checks above. If it comes back, it needs looking at properly. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.
Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
