What E05 actually means
The machine can't tell how hot the water is, so it has stopped rather than carry on heating blind.
E05 is the temperature sensor (NTC) fault. The control board either sees no signal from the sensor at all, or it ran the heater for eight minutes and the water temperature didn't rise by even 2 he it it shuts the wash down. In practice that means the sensor, its wiring, or the heating element itself.
What usually causes it
- Faulty temperature sensor (NTC)
- Loose or broken connection to the sensor
- Failed heating element, so the water never warms up
- Heavy limescale on the element or sensor
- Control board fault (less common)
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and try a short cold wash to see if the code returns
- Try a cold programme \ he without the code \the which will tell the engineer whether heating is the issue

This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above.
