What E11 actually means
The main control board has lost communication with the separate drying board, so the machine stops rather than run a drying cycle it can't control.
On these Montpellier washer dryers the drying side has its own electronic board, and the main PCB checks it can talk to it. E11 is raised when that conversation breaks down — the main board sends and gets nothing usable back. Because the machine then has no control over the heater or drying sensors, it halts instead of carrying on blind.
What E11 looks like on a Montpellier tumble dryer
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Montpellier tumble dryer, E11 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Not drying
- Blowing cold air
- Clothes still damp at the end
- Takes hours to dry
- No function at all
- Dead — nothing lights up
- Lights flashing and nothing happening
- Programme won't start
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- A loose, corroded or worn plug connector between the two boards
- Damaged or chafed wiring in the loom linking main board to drying board
- A failed drying board
- A failed main control board
- Poor or out-of-range mains supply upsetting the boards
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Switch off at the wall socket, leave it a full minute, then switch back on and retry — a one-off communication drop-out can clear
- Plug it straight into a wall socket rather than an extension lead or multi-way adaptor, and check nothing else heavy-drawing shares that socket
- Note whether the machine will still wash normally and only fails on drying — that is useful information for the engineer
Which Montpellier models show E11
E11 means the same thing on all 9 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.

Can I fix Montpellier E11 myself?
There are 3 checks you can safely do yourself first.
- Switch off at the wall socket, leave it a full minute, then switch back on and retry — a one-off communication drop-out can clear.
- Plug it straight into a wall socket rather than an extension lead or multi-way adaptor, and check nothing else heavy-drawing shares that socket.
- Note whether the machine will still wash normally and only fails on drying — that is useful information for the engineer.
