What E15 actually means

The machine has sensed the drying air getting hotter than it should and has shut the drying part of the cycle down to protect itself.

On these Montpellier washer dryers, E15 is logged as a high temperature error. During the drying phase the control board watches the temperature in the drum/air path, and if the reading climbs past its safe limit it cuts the heat and halts the programme rather than carry on. You will usually find the wash side has completed normally and it is only the drying stage that stops, often with very warm laundry left in the drum.

What E15 looks like on a Montpellier tumble dryer

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Montpellier tumble dryer, E15 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Machine not draining
  • Water left in the drum at the end of the cycle
  • Stops mid-cycle full of water
  • Standing water in the bottom
  • Not filling with water
  • No water going in
  • Takes for ever to fill
  • Stops right at the start of the cycle

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • Restricted airflow through the machine — a clogged lint or fluff filter
  • A blocked or dirty condenser/air duct so heat cannot escape
  • Overloading the drum, or drying a very heavy wet load, so hot air cannot circulate
  • A faulty temperature sensor giving a false high reading
  • Heater circuit staying on when it should switch off

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then power it back up and see whether the fault returns on a fresh drying cycle
  2. Clean the lint/fluff filter thoroughly under a running tap and let it dry before refitting
  3. Take a smaller load — if the drum was packed tight, try drying about half the amount
  4. Make sure the machine isn't jammed hard against a wall or boxed in, so it can draw and vent air freely
  5. Check the drain hose isn't kinked and the water tap is on, as an incomplete wash can leave the drying stage struggling

Which Montpellier models show E15

E15 means the same thing on all 6 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.
